Meet the PRINCIPAL
Melanie Teemant
Welcome Bobcat Families!
My name is Melanie Teemant and I am the proud
principal of this amazing school. This will be my 4th
year serving the Garrett community, and I can honestly tell you that I have been in awe of the dedication in our faculty and staff, and equally as impressed with the enthusiasm of the students and their families.
Garrett Junior High School is extremely proud of the hard work and dedication our students and staff have accomplished to make this happen. We certainly credit our achievements to all stake-holders, including parents, as it is the positive relationships and shared vision for students that ensure our continued success. Student achievement is a priority at Garrett JHS, and we believe it is essential for our students to develop the skills necessary to succeed not only in middle school, but also in life.
Our core values are Respect, Responsibility, and Integrity. It is expected that all members of the Garrett JHS community demonstrate these core values at all times. Each teacher, staff member, student, parent, and community member, will develop and practice these core values in their interactions on this campus. Students will be working hard this year to build their tenacity and practice resilience, as we return to the building as a school family. The vast majority of our students have a long track record of academic success. With this in mind, we want our students to understand that experiencing failure and adversity can positively contribute to growth and increase tenacity, which encourages continued success. Additionally, this allows for long term attainment of goals. This will build the grit necessary to overcome obstacles and develop perseverance in all things. Together, we will positively impact our students and effectively prepare them for a very successful future!
Engaging instruction and innovative curriculum are the heart of effective teaching at Garrett JHS, and dedicated teachers are determined to share their passion of teaching as we embark on this new school year. Together, we will work as a team and develop a partnership to prepare our students to succeed in life, but not just in school. Success in school is definitely important, but it’s only the beginning of the learning process. An important part of preparing for success in the real world is developing and building resilience during challenging times, having tenacity to push through difficult circumstances, and perseverance to weather the storms in life. Our children are our most precious resource and together we must prepare them for their world.
Join me in supporting your child to blossom as they learn and grow at Garrett JHS. Please feel free to reach out and chat throughout the year about your ideas, your child, or how we can partner in this journey.
Your partner in education,
Melanie Teemant
Meet the ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Jennifer Adams

Dear Bobcat Family,
My name is Jennifer Adams, and I am the new Assistant
Principal of Garrett Junior High. I am so excited to be here in the community I first began my teaching career, and a place I call home. I started my teaching career in1994 at Andrew Mitchell Elementary School. I was able to co-teach with the famous Mrs. Zapolski, and I have since taught at C. T. Sewell ES, John Dooley Elementary, Bob Miller MS, and was the Assistant Principal at Neil C Twitchell ES. So I am not a spring chicken, but I do have a vast knowledge in the field of education.
I grew up in a small suburb of Syracuse, New York, before moving here to begin my teaching career. I attended SUNY Buffalo for my undergraduate degree in teaching. I have a Master's Degree from both Lesley College and Touro University. I also have three children, Spencer who attended school in Henderson, Sydney who graduated from Boulder City High School, and Sammy who is going to be a senior this year at BCHS. My husband Dave is the K-9 Sgt. for HPD, so clearly we are big dog people. We have loved living in Boulder City for the past few years, as there is something amazing about living in a small town.
I hope to be a big part of your child's positive experience at Garrett Junior High School. I believe in building relationships, doing what is right and good for students, and working collaboratively with my community. I am so excited to be here and I feel fortunate to be given the opportunity to spend time with your children. Go Bobcats!
Sincerely,
Jen Adams
